Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Prepare for meteorological operation
  • Equipment is selected and checked for serviceability in accordance with standard procedures
  • Occupational health and safety (OH&S) requirements and recognised safety precautions are applied throughout the operation in accordance with standard procedures with particular attention to the hazards associated with explosive gases
  • Equipment is prepared as directed by supervisor

Element: Gather meteorological data
  • Weather balloon or other device is filled and launched in order to collect atmospheric information
  • Surface data is collected using meteorological equipment
  • Receiving equipment is operated in accordance with standard procedures
  • All data is recorded in accordance with standard procedures

Element: Monitor and report meteorological information
  • Meteorological information is communicated as directed by supervisor
  • Incoming data is monitored to identify changing conditions and any changes are reported to supervisor
  • Meteorological equipment is maintained and/or refurbished in accordance with standard procedures
  • Documentation and records are completed and maintained in accordance with standard procedures

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Assessment must confirm the ability to operate meteorological data recording equipment to provide accurate data on weather conditions.

Consistency in performance

Competency should be demonstrated over a range of actual meteorological scenarios that could be expected in the workplace

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Context of assessment

Competency should be assessed in an operational or simulated operational environment.

Specific resources for assessment

Access to meteorological and ancillary equipment.

Guidance information for assessment

Information that will assist or guide assessment will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This describes the essential skills and knowledge and their level, required for this unit.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
